Iron Dominion

★★★★☆ 4.3 Editor rating

Iron Dominion scratches the itch for a proper strategy game on a phone, which isn't easy to pull off on a small screen. You manage a base, balance three resources, and send out units in real-time battles that reward planning over panic. The tech tree is wide enough that two players can grow in completely different directions.

The touch controls surprised me. Selecting groups of units and issuing orders felt precise once I got the hang of the long-press menu. The campaign eases you in, and by the fifth mission I was setting up ambushes and feeling clever about it.

It can get grindy if you only play the solo campaign, and the later maps ask for patience. But the skirmish mode against the AI is where it shines, offering quick tactical matches that end in a tidy twenty minutes.
