Emberfall Chronicles
Emberfall Chronicles is the kind of RPG that actually earns the hours it asks for. You build a party of four, each with their own skill trees, and the combat is turn-based with enough wrinkles that you can't just mash the attack button. Status effects matter, positioning matters, and the boss fights forced me to rethink my setup more than once.
The writing is better than most mobile RPGs. The main quest has a slow-burn mystery about a fading sun, and the side characters have little arcs that pay off if you bother to talk to everyone. I did, and I'm glad I did.
My only gripe is the inventory screen, which gets cluttered fast. But the core loop of fight, grow, explore is genuinely addictive, and the autosave meant I never lost progress when the train hit a tunnel.
What we liked
- Deep turn-based combat with real strategy
- Characters you actually care about
- Generous autosave for on-the-go play
