Hollow Depths

★★★★★ 4.5 Editor rating

Hollow Depths is quiet and a little eerie in the best way. You climb down into a cave network, managing your light source and mapping the dark as you go. There's no hand-holding, which some people hate, but I loved slowly piecing together where I was and what the markings on the walls meant.

Movement is smooth with a virtual stick, and the puzzles are environmental rather than abstract. You push blocks, redirect water, and figure out which path the light reaches. The sense of place is strong, and the sound design does a lot of heavy lifting.

It's short, maybe four hours, but it stuck with me. This is a game to play with headphones late at night when the house is quiet.
